Let Go!

It is totally right to call out to God in our times of trouble...But...my question today is when God responds 'Do we trust him enough to let go of the problem?' We think we've given it to Him, but then we keep pulling it back.

Sometimes in our short-sightedness we may be hanging on to the thing that is the problem.    Yet, if we would just let go of some issue, or habit, or attitude (or sin) which is the real source of the problem, God could smooth things out.

Psalm 25:2 says, "O God, I put my trust in thee . . ." then in verse 4, "shew me thy ways O Lord, teach me thy paths..."

If we would just trust God with ALL of our life, he can be a lamp unto our path.  May I suggest that we quit tugging back on the problem, trust God and LET GO.

May you have a renewed trust in the Lord today!

Shelter from the Storm

There are storms in life.

They come in many different forms.  From the flood waters and tornadoes that have devastated so many areas of our country right now to the very personal storms of health problems, financial crisis, job loss, broken relationships and so many more heartaches and dilemmas

There are storms - but there is also an anchor in the storm.

If you are caught in a sudden downpour, given opportunity what is your first response?  To take shelter.  Oh, how wonderfully welcome is an umbrella!

Why then do we ever try to weather a storm of life on our own?  God is our anchor in a storm.  He is our relief from the assailing winds.  Look at what David wrote when he was being pursued by Saul, "Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast."  In the 'shadow of thy wings...'  How beautiful the picture is.  Just being in the shadow of God protects us.

But to be in his shadow we must be near him.  And when we draw near he is there to protect, to encourage and to calm the storm, or to calm us.

Look at the full context of today's scripture, "Trust in the Lord and do good;  so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed."  Trust God and do good and we will be cared for.

Don't be fearful of the storms of life. Our God commands the winds and the sea (Matthew 8:27) and he will care for us.

Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep

My apologies for the late hour.  It's been a busy day, and I failed to put God first, today.  Since it is so late, I thought perhaps a night time thought would be appropriate.

Do you sometimes lay awake nights, worrying about things for which you have no control?  I'm guilty too.  God invites us to trust in him.  So why don't we?

Are we better able to cope with our problems?
Do we know more than God?
Are we able to rearrange the future?

If you were carrying 20 pounds of potatoes and someone offered to share the load, or better yet, drove up with a car and said, 'Get in, let me take you where you need to go,' would you accept the offer?

Then let God take your burden, worry, problem, heartache, or stress.  Trust him with it.  And don't ask for it back.  Matthew 11:22 says,  "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
Trust Him and sleep in peace.
